What is the Difference Between Keto and Paleo Diets?
The keto diet and the paleo diet are two popular diets that have become increasingly popular in recent years. Both of these diets have similar health benefits, but they differ in terms of their specific approaches to achieving those goals. In this blog post, we'll explore the similarities and differences between the two diets so you can make an informed decision when it comes to choosing one that's right for you.
The Basics of Keto and Paleo
The keto diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet. It emphasizes eating fats like butter, coconut oil, olive oil, and animal products such as eggs, fish, poultry, beef, pork, and lamb. On the other hand, the paleo diet focuses on whole foods that are closer to their natural state – such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds – with emphasis on fat from things like avocado or salmon.
Macronutrient Distribution
Both diets have similar macro nutrient distributions – about 70 percent of their calories come from fat sources. However, on the keto diet most of these calories come from animal sources such as meat or dairy products while on the paleo diet most of these come from plant sources such as nuts or avocados. Additionally while both focus heavily on fats they also incorporate moderate amounts of protein -about 20 percent- but vary in terms of carbohydrates levels: keto being very low at 5 percent while paleo has a higher carbohydrate content at around 20 percent.
Food Quality
Another key difference between these two diets lies in their approach to food quality: while both emphasize eating wholefoods – meaning foods that haven’t been processed or refined – paleo tends to be stricter when it comes to which foods they consider acceptable; specifically eliminating all grains (including gluten free ones) dairy products (with some exceptions made for goat cheese), legumes (such as beans), processed sugars (like cane sugar) and processed oils (such as vegetable oils). Keto does not have such strict guidelines but does still recommend avoiding processed sugars as well as processed oils for optimal health results.
Benefits
Despite having different approaches both diets have many potential health benefits which include weight loss by reducing hunger levels; improved mental clarity; reduced risk for heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels; increased energy due to increased fat intake; better digestive health due to lower carb intake; better insulin sensitivity; improved sleep due to more consistent blood sugar levels throughout the day; better protection against cancer due to antioxidant rich foods being eaten more often; and stronger bones and improved joint health due to increased nutrient intake from wholesome foods. However since everyone is different it’s important to test out both diets before you decide which one works best for you according to your individual needs. It's also important to talk with your doctor or healthcare provider before starting either diet if you have any serious medical conditions or concerns regarding nutrition needs depending on your body type or age group etc...
So in conclusion both keto and paleo are healthy options however there are important differences between them particularly when it comes down to food quality and macro distribution so make sure you do your research before deciding which one works best for you!
