Is a Vegan Diet Beneficial for People With IBS?
For those living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), making lifestyle and dietary changes can be difficult but essential to relieving some of the symptoms and improving their quality of life. One popular dietary change that’s gaining a lot of attention lately is transitioning to a vegan diet, but is it really beneficial for people with IBS?
First off, it's important to understand what Irritable Bowel Syndrome is and how it affects the body. IBS is characterized by recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, cramping, gas or increased frequency of bowel movements. It's an umbrella term that covers a range of diseases and conditions associated with the gastrointestinal tract. These physical symptoms are often accompanied by psychological distress such as depression or anxiety which can further add to their discomfort. The exact cause of IBS remains unknown; however, research studies suggest links between stress and dietary habits as potential triggers in some cases.

A growing body of research suggests that there may indeed be some positive benefits to following a vegan diet for those suffering from issues related to their gut health.
